Abstract

Since the proclamation on Sustainability in Higher Education (SHE), awareness of green campuses has significantly increased due to substantial environmental impact of campus activities. Malaysia's government is committed to encourage sustainable development among young people by incorporating sustainability concepts into education system. This effort seeks to educate and increase awareness among the younger generation about meeting human needs while preserving the environment for future generations. However, there is still a lack of individual engagement and understanding of sustainability issues, resulting in low awareness of green initiatives within campus communities. This study aims to identify the level of awareness among students towards green campus environment and identify the most important aspect of green campus awareness. Using a quantitative research method, data were collected through questionnaires delivered to 360 students in UiTM Seri Iskandar. The survey is closed-ended questions and used Likert scales to assess students’ knowledge, attitudes and actions regarding green campus concept. The acquired data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science Software (SPSS), focusing on descriptive statistics like frequency and mean analysis. Findings reveal that students in UiTM Seri Iskandar are highly aware and understand about sustainable environment, green campus concept, implementation of green campus, importance of environmental conservation and initiatives related to green campus at the university. The most important aspect of green campus awareness is knowledge, along with green practice and green campus information. This study implies a need for the university to provide more educational campaign and improve their digital platforms to promote green campus activities. Meanwhile, student participation in green practices is crucial to educate others regarding green campus. The study concludes that creating awareness of green campus is essential to develop a culture of environmental responsibility in students and promote sustainable practices within campus community.
