Abstract

The safety of a road construction project is important due to the nature of the project which is dangerous and full of uncertainty. Even though the safety regulations and acts have been enacted in the construction industry, however, there is still a lack of implementation in Malaysia. Besides, there is also a lack of awareness in the management of the project regarding the safety of the workers on site and some of the contractors do not give the right instructions regarding safety before starting the road construction works. Therefore, this research study aims to investigate the causes that influence the safety performance of road construction. The research objectives are to investigate the current safety performance of road construction in Malaysia and to determine the factors that influence the safety performance of road construction in Malaysia. The data for this research was obtained from safety personnel of G7 contractors via questionnaire survey and analyzed using descriptive analysis. The finding shows that the current safety performance was at a good level.
