Abstract

Industrial Building System can be defined as a system or construction process that consists of prefabricated components that be manufactured by the factory and then send to the construction site and installed on site. One type of Industrial Building System is IBS formwork which is a system that enables the formwork usage to be used multiple times than conventional formwork as wood formwork to create the members of the building structures like columns, beams, or slabs. However, the usage of the formwork still is resilient by many sectors as contractors. The barrier of IBS formwork implementation is regular construction by conventional methods in constructing the building and IBS formwork system is one of the least used Industrial Building System methods in construction. This research aims to identify the barriers and limitations of IBS formwork in the Malaysian construction industry. The objective of this research is to identify what limitations of the IBS formwork usage, determine which limitations are the main constraint of the IBS formwork system, and recommend the method to improve the implementation of IBS formwork in construction.
