Abstract

There are billions of animals on the planet, if not as many as stars. Among these animals are those species that remain undiscovered by science. According to biologists'estimation, there are over five millions of vertebrate and invertebrate animal species waiting to be found (Osborn, n.d.). Many countries around the world have ratified the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS III), of which among its goals is to safeguard and protect marine creatures (United Nations, 1998). However, there are many factors which drive these marine animals to extinction, such as global warming, habitat destruction, water pollution, slow growth of population, overconsumption, and illegal poaching (Broom, Jun 17 2019). Due to those disastrous elements, some of these animals are prone to extinction, including marine species that would never be seen by future generations. The following are the list of marine creatures that have been declared extinct:
