Investigating the issues in design stage that contributing to delays in construction projects in Selangor

This research is about analysis on changes issues in design that contributing to delays for construction project in Selangor. The aim of the research is to determine the significant of changes issues in design towards delays in construction projects in Selangor. Delays in construction projects have been a persistent problem for the construction industry in Malaysia. One of the significant sectors that have been affected by construction delays is the residential development projects. In Malaysia, residential development projects are considered as the main sector of the country's construction sector, and delays in these projects can have a variety of negative economic and social effects. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the design factors that contribute to construction delays in construction projects in Selangor. The objective of this research is to identify the changes in design that contribute to delays in construction projects in Selangor, to determine the challenges in managing design changes in residential development projects in Selangor and to suggest the strategies to manage during design stage to reduce the project delay. The variables are distributed into three (3) main areas, including challenges faced by construction team, factors that contribute to delay and strategies to well manage the changing of design to reduce the project delay. This study adopted a simple random sampling method for data collection. The questionnaire was developed and distributed to 200 respondent, construction team in Selangor. This research is potentially contributing to assist the construction team in understanding well in construction project management precisely on design changes that lead to projects delays and failure.
