A study on the physical characteristics of lipsticks formulated with natural and commercial beeswax

This research was conducted to study the physical characteristics of the lipsticks formulated with different types of beeswax which are natural beeswax, commercial beeswax and the combination of natural and commercial beeswax. The study was carried out to get information on the lipstick formulations based on the types of beeswax that can suit the customer's acceptances. The study was done based on the physical characteristics of the lipsticks measured by two types of analysis which were the texture analysis by TA XT Texture Analyzer and sensory analysis by Panel Acceptance Test. The physical characteristics that were measured by the TA XT Texture Analyzer were the hardness, brittleness and stiffness through the Penetrometer test and Cantilever Rig test. The sensory analysis was evaluated by four types of attributes which were spreadability, hardness, tackiness and smoothness. In this study, there were nine lipstick samples formulated with different proportion amount and type of beeswax with constant amount of natural butter and oils. There were the 15g, 18g and 21 g of lipstick formulated with natural beeswax, 15g, 18g and 2 lg of lipstick formulated with commercial beeswax and 15g,18g and 21g of lipstick formulated with combination of natural and commercial beeswax. Based on the physical characteristics, the lipstick formulated with natural beeswax gave good physical characteristics compared to commercial beeswax. The lipstick formulated with natural beeswax became the most preferable lipstick by the panels among the lipstick formulated with commercial beeswax.
