Characterisation of PAN electrospun fiber at different stabilisation time

Hamid, Muhammad Ikmal (2018) Characterisation of PAN electrospun fiber at different stabilisation time. [Student Project] (Unpublished)

Abstract

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) with other polymer, polyacrylamide (PAA) was synthesized to be used in this study. Different additives were added to the solution (different concentration) before electrospun which are gold nanoparticles (AUnPs), Iron (III) oxide (Fe(III)O) and graphene oxide (GO). This work focused on how carbonization temperature effected the morphology and conductivity of PAN electrospun fiber. The stabilization was conducted at 200 ºC at three different stabilization time that are 30 min, 6 hours and 12 hours. Then further carbonisation process up to 750 ºC for 1 hours was run in order to obtain carbon fiber. The morphology of electrospun nanofiber and carbonized fibers was done to observe the image of structure of nanofibers. The structure of stabilized fiber for 6 hours and 12 hours have less porous structure and decreasing in fiber diameters. The conductivity of carbonized fibers was determined to see the potential for biosensor application. The carbonized fiber which stabilized for 12 hour has less impedance reading compared to other. The less impedance reading indicate the faster response of electrochemical used (carbon fiber) to the applied potential.
