Kenaf plant as the source of paper pulp: article / Megat Norazim Megat Ahmad, Prof. Madya Junaidah Jai, and Amal Nadhirah

This paper was an experimental project where it was done to determine whether kenaf plant was actually could be used as a source of paper pulp or not. A few tests had been discovered to know whether kenaf was suitable or not. Characterization of the kenaf had been done by determine the moisture content, ash content and also extractives from the kenaf. From the extractives, the percentage of holocellulose and α-cellulose were obtained. A calculation of kappa number was used to determine the yield quality. The test of the yield strength of the pulp was divided into three tests; burst index, tensile index and tear index.
