LAS688: Vernacular History of Landscape Architecture / College of Built Environment

UiTM, College of Built Environment (2023) LAS688: Vernacular History of Landscape Architecture / College of Built Environment. [Teaching Resource] (Unpublished)

Abstract

Due to lack of materials directly related to the evolution of Malaysia landscape, the course uses materials from the nation’s social and political history to interpret the factors that formed the country’s landscape. Thus, the course uses class reading, interpretation, and discussion to examine the evolution of ‘design on land’ in the country. The course is structured in three parts: the first part focuses on the genesis of the humanized landscape in the old country; the second on the colonised landscape during Portuguese, Dutch, English, and Japanese regimes; and the third on landscape development in the post-colonial era till the present.
