Abstract
This course is a survey of the traditional musics of Malaysia, focusing on Malay syncretic music, Chinese, Indian and Sikh music. Topics will cover the historical aspects, instruments, repertoire, and performance practice. Students will also receive playing experience in selected Malay traditional music genres such as Dondang Sayang, Malay Asli music, Ghazal Johor, Keroncong and Angklung.
