Abstract
This course is a survey of the traditional musics of Malaysia, focusing on Malay traditional music, the music of Sabah and Sarawak, and music of the indigenous tribes. Topics will cover the historical aspects, instruments, repertoire, and performance practice. Students will also receive playing experience in selected genres such as the Kompang, Dikir Barat, Silat, Wayang Kulit, Makyung, Silat, Caklempong, and Malay Gamelan
