MUC650 : Music composition portfolio / College of Creative Arts

This course represents a culmination of the students’ program of study. They apply skillful composition techniques in diverse formats and genres. Students are expected to have developed variety compositional style which they showcase in their presentation consisting of original works of: 1. Chamber orchestra (15-30 players); 2. An ensemble/choir (up to 4 to 15 players, can be with traditional instruments); 3. An experimental work; 4. A work for solo for any instruments; 5. A work for voice and one instrument (any instruments); 6. A work with at least one traditional instrument; 7. A short work for film score / a jingle production. Portfolio duration should be 30-40 minutes. The students have to write in different style of music. Integration of Malaysian traditional instruments is encouraged. All pieces in the presentation preferably performed live except for jingle or film scoring. Recorded performance is acceptable. Electronic or computer music not necessarily presented with live performance.
