Abstract

Online distance learning is one of the learning styles that has been applied in education environment since a few years back. However, due to the lack of practicing this kind of learning style in Malaysia, students and lecturers are having a hard time in adapting to this style. Due to the struggle facing by the students and the lecturers in adjusting to this online distance learning style, they start to have doubt the effectiveness of online distance learning. This is because, in Malaysia, the students and the lecturers are comfortable enough with the traditional way of learning in which both the students and the lecturers are within the same place at the same time. In order to encourage the students and the lecturers that online distance learning can be as effective as learning in the classroom, the researcher decides to study the factors of the effectiveness of online distance learning especially among university students during Movement Control Order. This study was carried out and the data was gathered through questionnaires involving 114 students. The sampling techniques that being used to conduct this study is nonprobability sampling in which primarily used in the technique of convenience sampling. Therefore, in this study, the researcher decides to examine three factors which include students’ readiness, instructor characteristics and psychology of learning as independent variables. In order to obtain the result, the researcher used SPSS. Based on the finding that the researcher obtained, the most significant factor is students’ readiness.
