Abstract
This paper aims to analyze the impact of socio-economic towards the total crime in Malaysia. There are four independent variables has been tested in this study, which are population, unemployment, income inequality (GINI coefficient) and inflation. These four variables are tested whether it has impact on the dependent variable or not. The dependent variable for this study is the total crime recorded officially by authority of Malaysia. The method to measure the result is by using E-views 9.5 program. The data was taking out from the year of 1986 until 2016 in yearly basis. This study is implemented the multiple regression models for estimated the enumerated variables’ impacts on crime rate, the results were all independent variable (population, unemployment rate, income inequality (GINI coefficient) and inflation rate) has given a significant positive impact towards the total crime in Malaysia. The result and finding that obtained in this study will help the investors or the government itself to improve the socio-economic level and improvise in the strategies and policy in order to reducing the crime rate in Malaysia as it is one of the main factors that will drawback the growth of a nation.
