Abstract
Malaysia is a country that experiences quite a number of thunderstorms throughout the year. This tends to result in lightning strikes that are capable of causing blackouts. Blackouts in Malaysia tend to happen mostly because of the lightning strikes. So, schools and student hostels would have to always reset the Earth-leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) in order to resume electricity. This would be very irritating if it takes place during the night. Thus, we have decided to create a device that allows us to handle such problems with ease. The device is the ELCB Automatic Reset Module or also known as Safety ELCB. An Earth-leakage circuit breaker (ELCB) is a safety device used in electrical installations with high Earth impedance to prevent shock. It detects small stray voltages on the metal enclosures of electrical equipment, and interrupts the circuit if a dangerous voltage is detected.
