Abstract

Indonesia, a country that is predicted to be one of the owners of abundant potential of natural resources in Asian Continent. With the total amount of Indonesian people almost reach 250 million, inappropriate behavior such as disposing of leftover food has become a habit that has almost been done by Indonesian people, given the number of pre-prosperous communities in Indonesia reached 19.4 million. Meanwhile, the total waste of leftover food, that mostly contributed by catering and hospitality companies, reached an estimated 13 million metric tons of 190 million metric tons of food needed. The estimated amount of leftover food that wasting can be said to be able to feed nearly 11% of the population in Indonesia, orreach approximately 28 million Indonesians. This number is almost equal to the number of preprosperous people in Indonesia. In addition to the problem of residual food disposal, among the people of Indonesia themselves often occur littering behavior, both organic and non-organic. Inevitably, this inappropriate activity eventually becomes a bad habit that even underage children are educated to litter. By combining the principles of food banks and garbage banks, we as students from Brawijaya University made an idea about reducing hunger in Indonesia. Garbargain : an web based-application that try to rise the awareness each individual for maintaining the environment while also caring about leftover food. So that when someone who has excess garbage, can be exchanged for food that given to the pre-prosperous community in Indonesia.
