Abstract

A screenplay is a vital blueprint for a TV or film production. Underdeveloped screenplays will impose challenges and problems during the production process. Henceforth, script analysis approach is crucial in determining a screenplay worth to be produced or it is needed additional examination before it is produced. In order to analyze a script, a screenwriter must identify the basic story problems such as narrative structure, dramatic conflicts, character and characterization, dialogues and subtexts and so forth. This course will expose students to story problems and suggestions to improve the story based on several case studies. Students’ understanding and analytical of story problems will be assessed through script analysis report, proposed a workable script treatment, in class workshops and discussion. This course is a platform set to develop and nurture student’s critical and analytical thinking that will enable them to apply the skills continuously throughout their careers as a screenwriter.
