Abstract

This course is designed to expose students to the principles and understandings of issues in adaptation works for creative writing industry. Adaptation work is a broad platform derives from different creative artworks, namely literature, cinema, music, painting, folklore and many more to name. From here, through this course, students will be introduced to key concepts and practices in the semiotic analysis of verbal and visual media. The course will be structured into three phases: develop understanding of adaptation works, critically respond towards a combination of literary and cinematic materials, and produce their final product according to the market demands. They will also engage with theoretical debates arouse into the development of adaptation studies as a scholarly field. At the end of the course, students will have the opportunity to reflect on questions of fidelity, textual authority and cultural prestige.
