Abstract

My memorable and enlightening 6-month industrial training began here at Columbia Asia Hospital under the department of Human Resource in Iskandar Puteri facilities to complete my course of Industrial Training, HRM666. It was a precious opportunity throughout my internship journey where this company has been the starter to my career and skills development. This internship report details the experience and observations during my internship period that I have gone through in this hospital as Human Resource Intern. Columbia Asia Hospital is known as one of the largest and fastest-growing international private healthcare companies with an extensive network of hospitals across Southeast Asia that offers optimum and affordable medical services through its hospitals and clinics with modem amenities and highly trained doctors and nurses. Therefore, being a part of the HR team give me a lot of lessons and learning of HR function in the healthcare industry. As you'll see, the strength of Columbia Asia Hospital has been stated in its SWOT analysis. Aside from providing high-end technology and good human resource development, Columbia Asia Hospital always prioritizes its culture of being caring and passionate to each of its patients. However, every organization will have their weaknesses, which are for this hospital is lack of manpower due to the lengthy and complicated recruitment process. Additionally, the new payroll system has given out problems to the payroll of the organization. Because of the rising demand for medical health protection, the growth in the middle-income group alongside the increase of chronic disease in the community and the rebound in medical tourism due to post Covid-19 pandemic, Columbia Asia Hospital have new opportunities to expand its business. The last remark is a threat and the competition from other private hospitals, as well as the insufficient availability of nurses in Malaysia, is a big threat that Columbia Asia Hospital face. Last but not least, the threat is the availability of low-cost healthcare treatments and products. To sum up, by evaluating positive and negative factors within and outside the company, the conclusion of the SWOT Analysis component helps the reader understand why the analysis should be relevant. Also, there are recommendations suggested for the hospital to expand its strengths, overcome its weaknesses, grab the opportunities and deal with the threats.
