Abstract

This course is tailor made for planning students focusing on the social aspects of planning occurring in an urban society. It starts with the introduction of the social goals and social objectives in town planning and that it is already present in the Malaysian Planning Doctrine. Any discussions on the social occurrences and social changes in the society are incomplete without the knowledge of the theoretical perspectives in sociology. This knowledge is useful for students to apply in the analysis of any social related research in planning such as neighbourhood study, community study or housing study. Furthermore this course will teach the students to apply social indicators in planning to measure the well-being and quality of life of residents in housing areas.
