Awareness on antivirus software among UiTM Pahang students / Intan Farhana Idris, Norainasikin Salleh and Nurul Syaheeda Hasan

The purpose of this study is to recognize the awareness of UiTM Pahang's students on antivirus software and this issue. There were 4 research questions; group of students aware the usage of antivirus software, student sure the effectiveness of antivirus software that they used, students realize the importance of knowledge of antivirus software and students that usually update their antivirus software. The scope of this research is limited to the students of Faculty of Office System Management and Technology at Pahang branch, and only involved two courses which are OM114 and OM221. The numbers of population of this research is 513 and the sample size is 52 students. The sampling technique that was used is simple random sampling. The questions were given to representatives directly, waited until they finished answering the questions and collected it back. The findings of this research can be concluded as most of students have awareness about antivirus software at a point they started being a final year diploma students. This is due to the fact that the subject that they taken in office management course are more related in using computers as one of the medium in learning session. Moreover, students were not sure the effectiveness of antivirus software that they currently used. Even though the antivirus software can detect virus infection, however it not totally has ability to remove the virus in order to secure the data storage where the virus keep on infecting the data storage. Most of the students realize that using the antivirus software is importance as they know where they may gain information about antivirus software and they felt importance to choose the antivirus software that easy to update. In fact, students usually update their antivirus software due to the high knowledge of respondents that know a virus can damage the data storage. It is recommend that UiTM should conduct more awareness about usage of antivirus software courses for it students to increase level of students knowledge. In addition, students themselves should have initiative to gain sufficient information about particular antivirus software before installing it on their computer system in order to know the effectiveness of the antivirus software.
