Abstract

I have chosen to conduct my 6 month internship industrial training at Malakoff Corporation Berhad’ Headquarters which is based at Kuala Lumpur Central. Malakoff Corporation Berhad (MCB) is a company or an independent power plant who is using renewable and coal resources to generate electricity. Now, there may be a question going around our head because as we know, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) is the only organisation that can supply electricity in Peninsular Malaysia, so to whom Malakoff will provide the electricity that they have generated? The answer is simple which are Malakoff Corporation Berhad is a supplier or vendor to TNB which will provide the electricity to TNB. As for my internship, I have been offered a place at the Group Division Finance Procurement department. There is a part of this report that shares my internship reflection. In this particular part, I have shared the things that I have gained during my 6 month internship in Procurement department Malakoff Corporation Berhad. I have gained numerous new skills, experiences and information which are related to my work and personal growth due to my internship at this company, which will help me to be a better worker in the future. In addition, I also successfully point out and identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Malakoff Corporation Berhad. The strengths that I have recognized in this company are a strong established brand and utilising all online platforms to maximise efficiency in working performance. Next, I also have pinpointed some of the weaknesses that can be improved in the future such as outdated electronic devices which is bad for a company who wants to transform into a digitalization process and high cost in replacing the expert especially. Furthermore, I am also able to analyse the opportunities for
this company which are in high demand for electricity since globalisation is in the move towards fully electric such as Electric car and high developing cities around the world and the other opportunities are discovering renewable energy to generate more electricity which are future proof and environmental friendly. Besides, I also identify a few threats that come from the external of company which are intense and competitive market in Malaysia specifically where the is a Government Link Company who are dominating and monopoly the market, also there is other threats that Malakoff need to pay attention which are environmental concerns and regulation where can bring harm to the company if they did not take sooner action. Based on SWOT analysis that has been figured out, there are some recommendations that can be suggested to Malakoff where Malakoff can conduct in order to maximise productivity, profit, revenue, recognition and at the same time minimise legal action that bring harm towards Malakoff. Some of the recommendation that can improve strength Malakoff are Strengthen Sustainability Efforts, expanding their renewable energy portfolio, increase their innovation & research, increase their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Social Media Engagement, create a community to obtain new ideas, increase their brand awareness and continuously monitor their online optimization. Next, recommendations that can help Malakoff overcome their weaknesses are upgrade their policy, conduct a regular survey to the employees to understand the requirements the employees need, knowledge transfer and retention and offer continuous training to their employees to develop their skills. In addition, recommendations that can help Malakoff optimise their opportunities are to expand their renewable energy portfolio, expand their business in Electric Vehicles charging infrastructure, Staying informed about government policy, subsidies, programs and incentives and form Public-Private partnership. Lastly, the recommendations that can help Malakoff overcome their threats are to diversify its energy sources in generating power, entering hedging contact (future and option) with their supplier, environmental impact assessment and increasing their investment in the renewable energy sector.
