Abstract

The course aims to give students the understanding of screenplay components and tools. Students are exposed to the major components of screenplay such as structure, plot, character, motivation, emotions, format, dialogue subtext and so forth. Other important topics are also covered such as the writer’s journey and the archetypes. In order for students to better understand these components, students are shown several films and read screenplays. The development of a screenplay involves pitching, a one-page outline, a step outline, a narrative treatment and a final draft of an 80-minute screenplay. A few workshops are held to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the screenplay.
