Abstract

This course exposes students to the basic components of analyzing a screenplay/film. The basic components consist of important dramatic elements such as story, plot construction, dialogue/subtext, character/motivation/character transformation arc, audience identification/emotions, themes/issues, dramatic conflicts, cinematic value/audience appeal and narrative structure. Students are to analyze the dramatic elements based on a few local and international films as well as local and international screenplays. The aim of the analysis is to identify the strengths and weaknesses/problems of the film/screenplay as well as providing suggestions to improve the film/screenplay.
