CID401 : Studio ceramic forming / College of Creative Arts

This is an introductory course introducing basic ceramic medium i.e. clay to students. It also introduces fundamental studio knowledge and practical experience in working with clay materials. It consists of an intensive-integrated program of instruction and exploration of fundamental skills and technologies. Concentration will be on developing sensitivity to various clay types and characteristics, exploring the medium through basic hand-building techniques and textural application through tactile experience. Students will be guided through various short workshop exercises with supporting series of lectures on contemporary ceramics and critics sessions in studio practice. Projects will be based on creativity in handling clay, creative hand forming and surface treatments with the introduction of all basic elements and principle of forms, ideas and execution/experiments in the actual forming processes.
