Abstract
The fruit of plants in the capsicum genus and solanaceae family of nightshades is known as a chilli pepper, or simply chilli. In many different cuisines, chillis are frequently used as a spice to give food more heat. The designer explores how chilli can be developed as motifs and patterns for resist textiles. By exploring different quality of lines and shapes, the chilli inspired designs were stylized to suit the appropriateness for textile design patterning and scale. In order to ensure that the colours are in harmony, chilli based dyes in a range of colours were produced using different mordants. The exploration of natural dye color application and layering is showcased in the crafted hand drawn batik fabric produced.
