Abstract
My designs are inspired from the uniqueness of the purple sweet potato plant. I chose purple sweet potato as my subject matter because I fell in love with its characteristics. I looked at the many aspects of this plant as a source to create my designs, from the shape of the fruit, its textures right down to the roots. What fascinates me was the quality of lines and its highly textured skin and roots. The beautiful purple pigment, the taste of sweetness of the fruit and the smell of a good delicacy cooked to perfection just excites me! I created an exclusive hand drawn batik collection, designed mostly in a grid pattern with detailing to compliment the motifs. In whatever I do, I try to challenge myself to gain more experience and knowledge and doing natural dyes is one of the most challenging yet rewarding experience.
