TSL571 : Contemporary literature / Faculty of Education

UiTM, Faculty of Education TSL571 : Contemporary literature / Faculty of Education. [Teaching Resource]

Abstract

This course aims to develop students’ awareness of the language in operation through the different selected types of genres in contemporary literature. Students will be introduced to a wide variety of contemporary literary texts written not only by British and American writers, but also various writers from different parts of the world such as Asia and Africa. This will expose the students to a whole range of issues faced by different societies during the contemporary or modern era. Another importance about this course is that students are expected to articulate their understanding and appreciation of selected modern novels, short stories and poetry, not only through written work, but also through verbal discussions and presentations. Students are also encouraged to analyze and then to discuss and write on these texts beyond the simple and obvious level to one involving applications at a more universal level.
