Issues and challenges of waqf instrument in Majlis Agama Islam Dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Kelantan (MAIK) / Wan Luqmanul Hakim Wan Ahmad Fathijaya Ningrat

Waqf is a type of charity instrument in which the profits are utilized to help the less fortunate members of society. Besides these concepts, many Muslims do not put up any effort to improve their knowledge of waqf. Without a doubt, this naive attitude among Muslims, particularly in Kelantan, about waqf has worsened the numerous visible issues and challenges in waqf matters, particularly in terms of administration and management. The issues and challenges experienced in practicing waqf was one of the waqf subjects examined. The objective of this research is to analyse the issues and challenges that MAIK face during its implementation. The method that was used for this study is a qualitative method. It was conducted by referring to the previous study about waqf and also by interviewing the waqf officer of Majlis Agama Islam dan Adat Istiadat Melayu Kelantan (MAIK) via phone call. Lack of funding, low level of knowledge and awareness and others several issues in waqf will be discussed in this study. As a result, this study will propose recommendations to MAIK on how to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of waqf. In conclusion, there are some challenges in conducting this study, especially in the aspect of understanding during the interview because the researcher's level of education about waqf is still low compared to waqf officers but the researcher becomes clearer about waqf after referring to the certain previous study.
