The understanding sports betting in Islamic perspective: a study among students in UiTM Terengganu, Dungun Campus / Afiqah Zafira Nasroddin

The betting industry in nations like Malaysia leads to the vast market size of the Asia Pacific. There are numerous types of gambling; one of them is sports betting. In Islam, betting involving assets or money is forbidden because it negatively impacts someone. Thus, the purpose of this study is to identify the factors Muslim youths involve in betting games, to study UiTM Terengganu Dungun Campus student’s understanding of betting games from an Islamic perspective and to suggest the solution to deter the Muslim youths involved in any betting games. This qualitative study uses random sampling method to find research participants in which students will be interviewed by using structure and semi-structured questions to determine their understanding of sports betting from an Islamic perspective. All the data were analysed and evaluated to obtain study results. The study found that most respondents understand and know about sports betting from an Islamic perspective. Hopefully, this study can recommend improvements to all parties to prevent Muslim youths from participating in any type of gambling.
