The method of zakat distribution in Alor Setar, Kedah / Nurul Fahada Johari

Zakat is one of the pillars of Islam that is obligatory on Muslims to fulfill. The distribution of zakat is one of the important things in the zakat management system in every state zakat center. The Kedah state zakat management center is under the auspices of Lembaga Zakat Negeri Kedah (LZNK) which has full authority from the Sultan of Kedah and is the only organization that manages zakat in the state. This study aims to analyze the method of distribution of zakat in Alor Setar, Kedah. There are many asnafs in Kedah. Therefore, this study has three objectives. First, identify who is eligible to receive zakat and the procedure for receiving zakat. Second, identify who is obligate to pay the zakat and the amount they need to pay. Third, summarize the distribution of zakat in Alor Setar, Kedah. To achieve these objectives, the design of this study is a case study. This study uses two data, namely secondary data and primary data. Secondary data were obtained from library studies. Primary data were obtained through online interviews. The respondent is a Manager of the Kedah Zakat International Research Center, Puan Dr. Hafizah Binti Zainal. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis methods. The findings of the study show that the first is about the zakat distribution system in Alor Setar, Kedah. The distribution of zakat should be in accordance with maslahah and fiqh methods. Second, the results of the study, found that there was help available. Third, the findings of the study demonstrate the method of program implementation to distribute zakat and its implications to the community. The results of this study provide two main implications. First, the emphasis on the distribution of zakat so that no individual is excluded. Second, the government is able to eradicate poverty in the community by creating the distribution of zakat from zakat funds.
