Abstract

The course is structured in two components. Component I - the course gives an overview of architecture and its profession by discussing the general scenario of the architectural history according to chronological order, beginning with the development of the simplest shelters of early civilizations. It also brings forth prominent personalities (architects/builders) of ancient civilizations and their works. Component II - the course discusses the development of Western architecture and its evolution from the early beginning of the classical Greek and Roman periods till the early 20 th century. Major buildings and structures are discussed in relation to the architects? design principles as well as identifiable comparative architectural characteristics for each period of development.
