Abstract
This research is an attempt to study the awareness of students and teachers of kindergartens on the fire requirement. The idea is to review the existing kindergarten based on the compliance of design with fire requirements and the awareness of students. A total of 24 children between 4 to 6 years of age were randomly selected to be respondents for the study. The purpose of this method is to gather an initial opinion from the kindergarten kids. A structured interview was also conducted with the teachers. Lastly, observations were made on each of the kindergarten to check on the fire requirement compliance of building design according to Uniform Building By-Laws 1986 (UBBL) and the criteria listed out by the Private Education unit of Ministry of Education (MoE) Malaysia. The findings of the study shows that fire safety education would significantly give benefit to kids that it can gradually improve kids' understanding on fire safety. Nevertheless, the adult plays a vital role in giving them the proper fire safety education that is needed.
