Abstract
Flood disasters in Malaysia occur almost every year, especially at the end of the year. This is because the monsoon season often occurs at the end of the year. Floods become one of the big challenges of disaster to the country as they happen almost every year. Floods can affect flood victims as it can affect their settlements and can be life threatening. Flood risk management is a measure that can reduce the risk of floods. Flood risk management is important to minimize the possibility of negative (Ferri et al., 2020). However, how far this flood risk management level is exposed to communities? This study focuses on the local's perception of flood risk management in Kajang, Selangor. This study also focuses on the relationship between social awareness components and flood risk management and to analyse the most contributing factors that lead to flood risk management among Kajang residents. This study used an online questionnaire and was distributed to 382 of Kajang residents using random samples. The data was analyzed using SPSS 23.0 to carry out the data entry that has been collected using the questionnaire. Overall, the study shows that the level of flood risk management among residents are high and also there are a significant relationship between social awareness component and flood risk management. This study also analyses that social communication is the most important factor that contributes to flood risk management among residents in Kajang, Selangor.
