Abstract
Malaysia has spent a lot of money on solid waste management, but it still shows problems. However, many recommendations have been put forward by researchers to improve solid waste management in certain areas. The study was conducted in Sri Aman to identify the effectiveness of solid waste management, to determine the challenges faced by local authorities, and also to provide recommendations to the Sri Aman District Council. The method of solid waste disposal often used by the authorities is open burning of solid waste and disposal of waste at landfills is due to the low cost compared to other methods such as energy recovery, reuse and recycling. This method also affects humans and the environment, apart from impacting solid waste management. Poor solid waste management also leads to high solid waste generation, apart from population growth factors. The increase in population not only leads to an increase in the generation of solid waste, but it also puts pressure on solid waste management. Good solid waste management as well as a high level of environmental awareness can help local authorities in reducing the generation of solid waste.
