Abstract
In developing nations, agriculture is the only dependable economic sector that is vital. With advances in science and technology, the preparation of agricultural fertilizers has improved substantially. Farmers are now able to use different types of chemical micro and macro-fertilizers to enhance soil fertility and productivity. However, repetitiveness and overuse of these fertilizers also tends to disturb the balance of the population of microorganisms in the ground, which increases the growth rate of soil pathogenic population. The objective of this study is to determine the effect the incorporation of effective microorganisms (EM) with the empty fruit bunch (EFB) compost towards the soil nutrient content (P, K, Ca & Mg) and rice MR220 growth and yield. Greenhouse experiment was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of EM-1 in improving the organic matters and nutrient availability in soil and MR220 growth and yield. For the treatment soil were amended with EM solution (800ml), EFB compost (65g pot-1) and recommended fertilizer (N 130 :P 60: K 100) kg/ha. There are four treatment for this study, T1 (RF); T2 (RF + EM); T3 (RF + EFB Compost) and T4 (RF + EM + EFB Compost). Combination of the incorporation of EFB compost an EM shows a significant positive result on the growth of the plant. The plant height significant value is 0.01 and the best combination treatments show by T3 (104.4cm pot-1) and T4 (110.1cm pot-1). The plant biomass significant value is 0.001, the best combinations treatments are T3 (148.38 g pot-1) and T4 (157.13 g pot-1). For the plant yield the significant value is 0.001 and the best treatment shows by T4 that have higher yield weight 98.72 g pot-1. However, for the soil nutrient content only the Mg content show the significance result where the value is 0.008 and the highest content show by combination treatment T2 (321.95 mg/kg). For the recommendation, further study can be done to determine the time stage effectiveness of the EM effecting the soil nutrient and plant growth.
