Abstract
This report presents the design of hairpin band-pass filter using metamaterial substrate that operates at the center of frequency of 10.5 GHz with bandwidth 20%. The reasons to use metamaterial substrate are to miniaturized filter circuit and improve the performance of the filter. Therefore, many designers have recently concerned and developed to reduce the volume, weight as well as mass production cost. The presences of metamaterial as a new composite and artificial dielectric gives good results in term of return loss, insertion loss and stop-band attenuation. An Omega structure with combinations of RTD5880 and copper has successfully performed metamaterial. The metamaterial behaviors are only viable at certain frequency and for certain design. Based on simulated results, the insertion loss of metamaterial band-pass filter is closed to ideal condition batter than conventional band-pass filter. The return loss of the metamaterial band-pass filter was reducing about 25% and the size of metamaterial band pass filter is smaller 21 times compared with conventional band-pass filter.
