Abstract
Optical fibre communication is growing rapidly as a replacement for coaxial cable communication. Optical fibre is a communication by transmission of light through fibre cable. Three major parts to perform this communication are light source, optical fibre and a light detector. To reduce the losses of the fibre, their characteristics must be considered. In this project, fibre attenuation, numerical aperture and the far field distribution was measured by using the Newport practical equipment. The attenuation was measured by using the cutback method and the numerical aperture was measured by using the mode field diameter. The far field distribution was measured for every two degrees difference in the azimuth angle.
