Elderly perception on robots / Halimahton Badariah Mohamad

Elderly perception on robots focuses on how elderly perceives the existence of robots in their daily life. In Japan and Europe countries, robots are welcomed into their household as they are able to perform house chores, a companion to the elderly and also as therapy medium. As such, this research is conducted as to understand how the same environment of human-robot interaction in those countries can be implemented here in Malaysia, and how the elderly able to accept the idea if it is being introduced here. The Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) is adopted in constructing interview questions to identify the perception made by elderly towards robots, and also to evaluate the factors of those perceptions. This research use thematic analysis to identify the key features of data that reappear throughout the survey. Triangulation is also used to form connections and themes to determine the significance of study and further improve the validity and reliability of the findings. As a result, this study concludes that elderly has the tendency to accept the technology, in this case the robot, that benefits them in area as domestic helper.
