Abstract

Since the 1970s, there is growing mass interest in the quality of the of the environment due to critical conditions in the environmental degradation and pollution. It has become a global issue in the 1980s and would undoubtedly continue in the 1990s and well into the next century. The urgency of the debate on environmental issues will now involve local communities. the green movement, regional organisations and many international bodies. As the media have been one of the key institutions in creating public awareness it is important to look into how environmental issues are reported. Are news values in environmental issues different from other news stories? Do competing perspectives get equal reporting from journalists?
