Abstract
Zakat income (mal al-mustafad) is a result of income through remuneration or wages of a job or service, income based on merely based welfare and circumstances such as death, marriages and others. Zakat income has been classified as a property of zakat but zakat was compulsory in 1997 by the National Fatwa Council of Malaysia. Zakat income among Muslims is a new issue. The National Fatwa Council has announced that it is mandatory for Muslims to pay zakat income in Malaysia. The research focuses on the study of an awareness of zakat income (mal al-mustafad) among government staffs in Bachok, Kelantan. The objectives of the research are to examine the awareness of zakat income (mal al-mustafad) among government staffs to pay zakat income, analyze the factor that influences the government staffs to pay zakat income and identify the reasons for government staffs who refuse to pay zakat income. The primary data and secondary data were used for this research. In order to analyze data, 103 questionnaires were distributed among respondents who are the government staffs in Bachok. The data was analyzed by using statistical package (SPSS). It can be concluded that the respondents were aware that they should pay zakat income in order to get blessing from Allah.
