Abstract

While it comes to traditional music, cultural context and authenticity are important factors to consider when planning how to teach local music traditions. Traditional music is an oral tradition by definition. Non-formal education, such as listening, observing, and playing, was used by musicians to learn traditional music. Within the community of musicians, talents and information were passed down verbally. With the introduction of the music education in schools and institutions, it is now being utilize to help students learn faster. This research aim is to introduce Malay traditional musical instruments using illustration on children story book. It is to introduce our new generation to our culture that being abandoned in our day of age. This study utilized a qualitative approach. Based on the responses provided by these respondents, it appears that the nature of the transmission process may not occur in the cultural context and that preservation of the Malay traditional musical instruments among students in Malaysia in this new of age. In this research, we know that Malaysia traditional instruments is not relevant in this day of age so, I suggest to make a story books about the traditional instruments to attract the interest of the students in Malaysia to introduce them to the traditional culture in Malaysia. There are many benefits of story books to children, It is full of colourful and interesting illustration in them to spark the child’s imaginations to be creative and it is easily to understand the content in the book. Story books also help develop your child’s brain, ability to focus, concentration, social skills and communication skills. With story books it will make peak the student interest of Malay traditional musical instruments in their life.
