He is a competent and qualified surveying practitioner with qualification and experience in the fields of building surveying, architecture and building engineering. He received a fellowship from the Royal Institution of Surveyors of Surveyors (Malaysia), Society of Professional Engineers (UK), Chartered Association of Building Engineers (UK) besides Professional Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors & the Chartered Institute of Building (UK). He provides expert advice to a number of government departments, public and private agencies, and higher learning institutions and also as academic assessor to the Malaysia Qualification Agency (MQA). Before serving as Professor in the Faculty of Built Environment, University Malaya, Dr. Ahmad was a senior management and technical officer in the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.
