Abstract
This study investigates irrigation problems in Sabah on a whole in general and Penampang area in particular. The findings of problems are in general with the aim of giving a definite solution to that what can be solved. The study involves the availability of irrigation water, improvement to watercourse, water requirements for paddy, soil moisture contents, etc, as well as the water conveyances and water application efficiency with the aim of establishing a comparision of benefits and cost ratio in the project. It also gives the idea of how much percentage increase of benefit can.be obtained by improving the conveyance with the aim of saving water. Further the study also reveals how water could be utilized most efficiently and economically by presaturation of the field, but due to lack of data, presaturation condition could not be verified on the selected area, so only theoretical examples have been given.
