Abstract

As we know, adaptation means to adapt or change the use of a building for another purpose. These past few years has seen that the old shophouses has changed due to the rapid development that takes its toll on the historical spaces and building. Realizing the adaptation on old shophouses in Malaysia was adapted into new function but do not suitable for old shophouses, this dissertation which titled "Adaptation on Old shophouses" is documented. This research in tends to identify the problems and issues of adaptation on old shophouses. In addition to this, site observation was undertaken to identify the location and condition of selected old shophouses. Case studies on fourteen numbers of old shophouses that are located in Klang area were undertaken to highlight the background information of the building and the typology of old shophouses in Klang, Selangor. Analysis for the research comprise of descriptive approach as well as statistical analysis which are based on questionnaire survey and observation. The findings revealed that problems and issues of adaptation on old shophouses in Klang, Selangor, and the results were then critically analyzed.
