Academic dishonesty among degree students in UiTM Seremban 3 / Amirah Nadiah Masri, Dania Syazween Al-Azmimurat and Intan Nabilah Ahmad Kamal

Many students were caught in academic dishonesty that includes plagiarism activity. It is one of the most negative behaviors in Malaysian society today. There are three objectives for this study: determine the level of awareness among degree students towards plagiarism, identify degree students’ perception of academic integrity and identify the factors that lead to academic dishonesty among degree students. There were 351 respondents from UiTM Seremban 3 degree students involved in this study. The methods that have been used are descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression. The researchers found that in component for the level of awareness among degree students towards academic dishonesty shows that the highest mean is for item ‘I know that if I break the plagiarism policy, I will face serious consequences’ at 4.4644 and standard deviation = 0.7158. Other than that, students’ perception of academic integrity shows that the highest percentage for “serious cheating” was collaborating with others when individual work (33.6%). Lastly, factors that leads to academic dishonesty among degree students shows that only personal attitude, academic stress and academic self-efficacy are significant towards academic cheating (p-value < 0.05). Meanwhile, gender and pressure factors are not significant towards academic cheating.
