Abstract
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) belongs to Poaceae family that being grown largely in Asian- Pacific region as a staple food. However, due to climatic and weather changes, water scarcity has made production of rice in large scale become more challenging. Hence, the introduction of aerobic rice with lower water consumption was introduced. The main concern in the aerobic rice was weed infestation where it could reduce yield production more than 50% due to weed germinate concurrently. Thus, this study was aimed to identify weed population and determine growth performance of aerobic rice. The troughs experiment arranged in RCBD with 3 replications was conducted in glasshouse condition at UiTM Jasin, Melaka. Aerobic rice was cultivated in three different soil types consist of (clay, clay loam and peat soil). Results revealed the most predominant weed species was Leptochloa sinensis followed by Fimbristylis globulosa and Hedyotis corymbosa .Weed density and weed dry weight were recorded highest in clay soil collected from Serkam. Aeron 1 was performed as highest plant and produced highest number of tiller when cultivated in peat soil collected from Share Farm UiTM Jasin followed by clay soil collected at Serkam and clay loam collected from Sg Kesang.
