Abstract
As people, there are a lot of factors that differentiate and separate us from one another, like our history, culture, social status, gender, and external differences such as our facial features. Such factors cause adversities that stem from opposing views and opinions. Part of my creative process is looking through the world from a different perspective by transforming and attaching new meanings to simple objects and diverting despondency into something beautiful. I look at diversity and I see shapes and colours that are different, not one shape or colour is above or more beautiful than the other, no beauty standards, no gender inequality, not one race superior to the other. They are all just shapes that are, although different, are also equal. I see adversity as a way to practice empathy, and to embrace the different forms of diversity. These are the underlying principles behind my art, and so that is why my art style mostly consists of two faces divided in the middle with different shapes and colours as facial features. This is to show that not one person is the same and should not be the same, because people are multifaceted. We should not confine them to only one trait, because a person can do good or bad but this does not change that he or she is still the same person.
