Abstract
Collagraph printmaking is an art form where prints are made by printing from a plate constructed on either mount board or a very thin plywood. The artwork is made up like a collage, hence the name Collagraph. The collagraph is a relief printing technique whereby the raised surfaces of a material are printed. First thing that comes to mind is the materials. Each material has its own characteristic and plays a vital role in the outcome of this work. The materials used in this artwork are packaging of items used daily such as canned drinks, tissue boxes, toothpaste tubes, etc. The plate construction is a no-cost consideration. The subject of this artwork is scenery. The scenery that I chose for this artwork is the scenery that I often see during my daily commute to class during my time in UiTM Shah Alam. I would sketch a specific scenery and apply the materials that have been collected onto the sketch, matching or mismatching the textures of the objects in the sketch. Exploring the elements and principles of art and not constraining myself was, in some ways, liberating. The process of making this art was an escape of a world governed by sets of rules that people must adhere to. Ultimately, this artwork is a statement to what things could be if we could sometimes bend the rules.
