Abstract
Luna I is made using stoneware clay shaped into a hemisphere and decorated with glazes of contrasting features. This piece is from my Luna collection where I wanted to bring about the topic of looking inside someone or something and to not judge the outside appearances of things. This was translated onto my work almost literally. Aesthetically speaking, the collection was inspired by the Moon and the phrase “once in a blue moon”. The basic geometric shaped vessel is glazed with a rough bubbly textured, matt and dull, white, and blue glaze on the outside but in contrast, the insides are glazed a shiny manganese gold, pulling people’s interest to look inside them hence the theme of the collection. The vessel can be a standalone sculpture that can also double as a decorative ikebana vase as that was one of my intentions and inspiration whilst making it. As it looks very organic and ‘natural’, it can be composed with either driftwood or stones/rocks and can be propped up to certain angles depending on how one wants to compose it.
